Precise and rapid solvent-assisted geometric protein self-patterning with submicron spatial resolution for scalable fabrication of microelectronic biosensors

Precise and high-resolution coupling of functional proteins with micro-transducers is critical for the manufacture miniaturized bioelectronic devices. Moreover, electrochemistry on microelectrodes has had a major impact electrochemical analysis sensor technologies, since small size microelectrode affects radial diffusion flux analyte to deliver enhanced mass transport electrode kinetics. However, large technology gap existed between process associated such microelectronics conventional bio-conjugation techniques that are generally used. Here, we report rapid geometric protein self-patterning (GPS) method using solvent-assisted protein-micelle adsorption printing couple biomolecules onto minimum feature 5 μm time about minute. The GPS versatile micropatterning various including enzymes, antibodies avidin-biotinylated proteins, delivering good alignment preserving biological functionality. We further demonstrated enzyme-coupled glucose detection exhibited performance which benefited from maximize effective signal transduction at bio-interface. These arrays maintained fast convergent displaying typical steady-state I–V characteristics, response times, linear sensitivity (0.103 nA mm−2 mM−1, R2 = 0.995) an ultra-wide dynamic range (2–100 mM). Our findings provide new technical solution precise accurate microelectronic array important implications scaleup diagnostics, biofuel cells devices could not be realized economically by other existing techniques.
